Prospects

Prospects is a mixed-media installation combining video projection and painting.
In 2016, I began asking friends a series of questions about their childhood: How did they grow up? What games did they play with siblings or friends? What foods stood out in their memories? These conversations revealed diverse experiences, shaped by different regions and cultures, yet we all found ourselves here, living in New York City. I wanted to explore what brought us to this moment and express it through Prospects.
To me, Prospects reflects the idea that we exist as multi-dimensional individuals. We carry the “old parts” of ourselves—formed by our backgrounds and personal histories—while continuously developing “new parts” to adapt to the demands of city life. This ongoing process shapes us, creating new forms of identity and selfhood.
But this raises questions: Are we actively reforming ourselves, or are we being shaped by our surroundings? Do we create these forms, or have they always existed, waiting to emerge?
