Possession

Kinetic Sculpture, wood, metal and plastic, 12 in x 50 in x 8 in

Possession is an interactive kinetic sculpture inspired by my childhood memories, exploring the complex interplay between identity and memory. The sculpture invites the audience into a physical dialogue with my past. When viewers approach the piece, colorful wooden blocks move rhythmically up and down, mirroring the dynamic and evolving nature of memory. As they step away, the blocks become still, embodying the reflective pause of self-identification.

The wooden mechanical system draws inspiration from the toys I played with as a child, while the vibrant colors are derived from paintings I created about my childhood. These elements intertwine, bridging the gap between past and present, time and space, in an abstract yet intimate expression of self-discovery.

This work seeks to engage viewers in a "conversation" with my childhood memories, offering them a glimpse into the reflections that shape identity. Through its motion and interaction, Possession encourages the audience to consider their own evolving identities and the ways their memories inform who they are.
